Japan SOTA Association

by vk3arr

On last Friday, a group of SOTA afficionados gathered in Tokyo to discuss starting a JA assocation. Japan is a very mountainous country, and preliminary research indicates in excess of 5000 summits that meet prominence requirements.

Japan has two existing mountain radio programs, Yama to Musen (Mountains and Radio) and Yamaran (Mountain…ran or something). Both have large summit lists with no prominence qualification, so SOTA will coexist with these programs once it is up and running. Two of the lead participants in these programs, Toru and Jun, have agreed to help with the summit checking and getting an ARM together.

In addition, me, another SOTA Andrew (Andrew E) and Arnaud (a Frenchman living in Tokyo) have all offered to help with the process. Hopefully we will have a new association to chase (and activate!) by next year sometime.
